2017 Firefly Music Festival showcases new features

Dover is buzzing with the thousands in town for the 2017 Firefly Music Festival.
It's the 6th year and in order to keep the crowds coming, the festival came up with innovative ways to get concert goers involved in the experience.
This year, it's all about the fans.
Each and every single day, about 90,000 people come to the four day musical affair that covers over 100 acres.
Firefly's director of creative programming, Christiane Pheil tells 47 ABC there are several new changes.
This year, it's more than just musicians raising their voices.
Firefly's fan curator portion lets fans input their ideas towards this year's festival.
Pheil says, "They do a lot of the thematic things around firefly so we have a big space called the pathway. The fans chose the theme to it this year, which is jellyfish, which actually turned out amazing. I was a little skeptical at first, but it looks great in there."
Fans were even able to pick the newest attraction called the Fort. It's a multi-level container bar, which has upper decks for people to view and see both the Lawn and Porch stage performances.
Through that fan curator, they were also able to add on to the food options.
But the fans are bringing more than just their ideas.
"Imagine bringing in 90,000 people per day for Firefly, it just boosts the economy around here," Pheil tells 47 ABC.
The Firefly Music Festival is such a huge economic driver that even Delaware Governor John Carney weighed in.
He said the four day music festival not only has an impressive annual economic impact on the state, but it gives Delaware a chance to leave a great impression on visitors from other areas.
