Crisfield man arrested on assault and other charges after barricade incident

Police say that a Crisfield man was arrested after assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Baltimore County, fleeing to Crisfield and barricading himself inside of his home on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, police were asked by Baltimore County police to help with finding a local fugitive, 47-year-old Richard Sterling. Baltimore County Detectives reportedly said that Sterling was wanted for kidnapping, first and second degree assault, robbery and theft.
The incident reportedly happened earlier on Wednesday morning where Sterling stabbed his ex-girlfriend in Baltimore County and fled to Crisfield.
At 6:10 p.m., on Wednesday evening, Maryland State Police responded to Somers Cove in Crisfield where they tried to take Sterling into custody.
Police say, Sterling then barricaded himself inside of the apartment on the second floor and told investigators that he had a knife and was going to kill himself or anyone who came up the stairs.
After several hours of negotiations, Sterling reportedly left his home holding a fixed blade knife which he refused to drop after law enforcement asked him to.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was on the scene and used less deadly tactics which caused Sterling to follow orders and drop the knife.
At 8:42 p.m., Sterling was taken into custody without further incident. Sterling is being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
