Va. voters cast votes for gubernatorial primary elections

Tuesday,  Virginians made their way to the polls to cast their votes in the gubernatorial primary election.

On the Republican side is Ed Gillespie, Corey Stewart ,and State Senator Frank Wagner, and for the democrats is Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam and Tom Perrielo.

"Well Ralph Northam represented us in the state senate and did a good job, he was a  reliable and a good state senator," says Gary Turnquist, a Chincoteague resident.

"I voted for Jill as a deputy and Ed Gillespie as the governor," says James Hausmann.

"For those of who live on the Eastern Shore it's Ralph North and we know he knows our area, and has been at it for along time," says Diane Minor.

Although voters have different views on on who should next be in line  to lead the state of Virginia, one thing they can agree on is the issues that the next governor should address, starting with healthcare.

"For me personally healthcare is an important issue and wanting a governor who will make sure everyone in Virginia can afford healthcare and get good healthcare," says Minor.

"I think the state needs to start stepping in and seeing that communities not only here but also across the state of Virginia have proper healthcare facilities that are available to people," says Turnquist.

Also on Virginian's mind is  job growth, and offering training to fulfill jobs that are on demand, for example in manufacturing.

"There are other things that they can teach . For instance teach these kids how to work with their hands," says Lee Davis.

Regardless of what political party the next governor represents, residents hope that he can work well with state legislators.

"If they can't work together nothing will be done," says Elaine Davis.
