IRSD hosting FAFSA and college scholarship info. events

The Indian River School District has announced they will be bringing in financial aid experts to help college-bound seniors and their families with FAFSA applications and secrets to securing college scholarships.
IRSD says it is partnering with $tand By Me in order to help families of senior students in submitting their Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
A workshop will be held from 5-7PM on October 13 in the Indian River High School computer lab. The school is located at at 29772 Armory Rd. in Dagsboro, Delaware.
School officials remind families that pre-registration is required for this event on the district website, and families will also find a list of the required documents they will need to bring to submit their FAFSA.
IRSD officials state that the FAFSA is the only way students can get all of the financial aid they qualify for, whether it’s in the form of scholarships and grants, or low-interest loans, however usually students receive a package that offers a combination of both.
“Filling out the FAFSA form can be overwhelming for some students, but it’s so important that they do it to qualify for financial assistance. We will be here to support college-bound students and their families to help make their dream of attending college a reality” said Michele Murphy, Indian River School District Parent Center Coordinator.
At this event, a facilitator will walk students and parents through the steps of completing the application and be available to answer questions during this hands-on submission workshop.
For more information or to schedule an appointment for FAFSA assistance at a different time, contact $tand By Me at (302) 255-9621 or visit this website.
IRSD is also partnering with $tand By me to host a free scholarship workshop from 6-8PM on October 26, again at Indian River High School.
School officials say the workshop is aimed at helping high school students and their families understand the resources available to identify scholarships.
Experts will also be sharing tips on how to write effective essays, as well as a scholarship fair taking place before the workshop featuring local colleges and organizations that will be offering scholarship opportunities to students this year.
The scholarship fair will give students the chance to meet the funders and ask important questions before submitting applications.
