Wicomico Co. residents head to polls for primary election

Since 7 a.m. Tuesday, republicans and democrats have been venturing to the polls to vote in their party’s primary.
Maryland has a closed primary, so the voices of independent voters your won’t be heard until the general election in November.
We’re told there are 31 polling places in Wicomico County, and election officials at Wicomico High School tell 47ABC they saw a pretty steady flow people all day long.
They say the busiest time of day was between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.; however, they expect it to pick up before polls officially close at 8:00 p.m.
According to Anthony Gutierrez, director of the Wicomico County Board of Elections, close to 49 percent of eligible voters participated in the 2008 primaries in Wicomico County.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the unofficial count was 19.6 percent.
