MARYLAND – WMDT is projecting Maryland Senators Mary Beth Carozza and Johnny Mautz will both win re-election to their seats following Tuesday’s race.

Senator Carozza has served on the state legislature since 2014 — first as a delegate and then as a senator since 2018, representing Maryland’s 38th Senate District, which encompasses parts of Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. She previously told WMDT that her top priorities include public safety, affordability and leveraging multilateral partnerships to support the Eastern Shore.

As of 10:30 p.m., with 70 of 76 precincts reporting, Carozza had won nearly 64 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger Lino Cressotti.

Senator Mautz, like Carozza, was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2014 and, in 2022, was elected to the State Senate. He represents the 37th District, which encompasses all of Dorchester County and parts of Talbot, Caroline and Wicomico Counties. He serves as ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee. He told WMDT top priorities surround bringing his constituents high speed broadband internet, more health providers and energy solutions.

As of 10:30 p.m., with all 99 precincts reporting, Mautz had secured 58.5 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger Katie G. Clendaniel.

WMDT will update this article with official election numbers and statements from both candidates.
