BREAKING: AP projects Rep. Sarah McBride to win re-election in Delaware

DELAWARE – Associated Press (AP) has projected Representative Sarah McBride (D-Del.) will win reelection, securing a second term as Delaware’s sole congressional member in the House of Representatives.

AP called the race at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday night, with just 35 percent of votes counted. She defeated Republican challenger Dr. Joe Arminio, finishing with a total of 64 percent of the vote.

Representative McBride is the first openly transgender member of Congress. In this year’s election, McBride won Sussex County – an electoral feat not accomplished by any statewide Democratic candidate since 2012.

“After two years of showing up in our communities, defending all of our neighbors, and getting results, I am honored that Delawareans have once again placed their trust in me to continue serving them in Congress,” said Rep. McBride. “I am ready to head back to Washington to make the American dream affordable and accessible for all of our neighbors.”
