DART’S Stuff the Bus Campaign visits Dover
DOVER, Del.– The annual Stuff the Bus Thanksgiving food drive is a partnership between DART and the Food Bank of Delaware. With the goal of collecting 15,000 pounds of non-perishable food and essential items to distribute to families in need across the state of Delaware.
DART’s marketing and communications outreach specialist Azeem Mizra tells WMDT more about the campaign.
“This is the 29th year of partnering with the Food Bank of Delaware and we collect non-perishable food donations,” Mizra said. “We bring our bus onsite to the grocery store statewide, and we try to collect as many canned goods and nonperishable food as we can.”
DART’s Deputy Chief of Customer Experience Officer Kathy Smith shares what kind of donations Stuff the Bus accepts.
“Just a variety, whatever would make a family meal,” Smith said. “Things like vegetables, dry goods, beans anything with protein things that will make a complete nutritious meal.”
Vice president of communications for the Food Bank of Delaware Kim Turner explains more on how important community support is when it comes to food drives especially around the holidays.
“So we’re definitely relying on the community to help ensure that our neighbors have access to Thanksgiving meals,” Turner said. “So whether, you can donate a can or a couple of bags of food every little bit really makes a difference.”
The Stuff the Bus initiative goes until Saturday, bringing families across Delaware who are facing insecurities food and other nonperishable items.
