Safe drinking advocates urge mindfulness this Halloweekend

Salisbury, Md. – This Halloween, advocates for safe drinking are reminding people to stay mindful when it comes to drinking.

With Halloween landing on a Saturday this year and clocks turning back an hour at 2 a.m. on Nov. 1, many local bars are staying open an extra hour and festivities are set to extend across the entire weekend.

WMDT spoke with Kevin Bellack at Reframe, a neuroscience-backed alcohol reduction app, who says party goers should have a plan so everyone can have some safe fun and avoid the “Sunday scaries.”

“If I don’t want to drink, maybe I will be the designated driver that night or, you know, telling people in advance my plan can be very helpful,” Bellack said. He said thinking ahead can be beneficial in making sure revelers can make the most out of festivities beyond the festivities themselves.

“So there’s a lot of different ways there as far as the planning is concerned, but also plan to take forward, like, how do I want to wake up on Sunday?,” he said. “You know, pushing forward and bringing that to the forefront, can be helpful to, you know, show up a little bit better, perhaps.”

Bellack emphasized that Halloween is a kick-off point for holidays and as the season progresses, safety is paramount.
