Historic Dorchester Co. Windmill Opens for Fundraiser
(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – A historic windmill site in Dorchester County is raising money to work on flooding resilience.
The Spocott Windmill and village held an open house over the weekend to help raise money in order to move several of the historical buildings to avoid flooding threats.
The village preserves the legacy of the Spocott windmill, originally built in 1888 with the current windmill being a replica standing in it’s place since 1972.
And they want to make sure flood waters can’t cause any havoc.
“There are two problems we’re going to have before we even get to repairing the mill. We’ve got to raise it. And you can see there’s a lot of water sitting around. At one point, the, we’ve had water go up as high as the third step on that mill,” says Spocott historian, George Radcliffe.
