POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- The Mar-Va Theater has received a $10,000 Main Street Improvement grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

Pocomoke City Director of Economic Development Karah Lacey, says the improvements are just the beginning of ongoing downtown beautification efforts.

“The Mar-Va Theater was a recipient of the 2026 Main Street Improvement Grant, and then for 2027, we are actually splitting the grant between the Costen House Museum and the Sturgis One Room School.” Said Lacey. “So every year, we can chip away at a little bit more improvements at a time to really make Pocomoke a destination.”

The theater, which was built in 1927, used the grant to fund a new mural, improvements to the marquee sign, and the overall facade of the building.
