Chamber Chat: SACC Hosts Meet the Candidates Forums
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s Chamber Chat, WMDT’s John Trout and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) President Bill Chambers discuss SACC’s ongoing Meet the Candidates forums being held ahead of the 2026 general elections.
On Oct. 6, SACC held a forum introducing the candidates for Wicomico County Executive and the Wicomico County Sheriff. But, coming up on Tuesday, Oct. 13 in the Wicomico Room at the Guerrieri Student Union on Salisbury University’s (SU) campus, the Chamber will hold a forum hosting all of the Wicomico County Council candidates. And, the following Tuesday on Oct. 20, the Chamber will host the candidates of Maryland House Districts 38A and 38B in the Assembly Hall, also located on SU’s campus.
“Of course, we all know the Somerset race is wide open; the candidates there have not held office,” Bill remarked. “That should be an interesting forum.”
Bill also shared with WMDT that, as a moderator of the forums, it’s important to him to stay fair and balanced when asking candidates questions. But ultimately, his goal is to draw out incumbent candidates’ records, and inquire as to the motivations and intentions of those coming into office for the first time.
“Those are very telling tells in that sometimes people have this distorted idea about what the role is in elected office, so we try to peel back the onion in that regard,” Bill added.
The forums are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited. For more information on the forums, click here.
