Richardson Maritime Museum Celebrating Special Boatyard Bash

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – It’s all hands on deck at the Richardson Maritime Museum as everyone from the museum to the Boatworks is preparing for this weekend’s Boatyard Bash; the museum’s biggest celebration of the year.

“This Museum upstairs had just been opened up for the first time. So not only are we having the Boatyard Bash with all the fun activities. We’re going to be celebrating a year that the museum has been reopened,” says Museum Board Chairperson, Debbie Usab.

And they have a good reason to celebrate on the harbor.

The museum has truly come a long way over the course of the last year, going from the brink of shutdown, to hosting thriving programs.

Debbie tells WMDT, “Last year, we applied for. Over $1 million in funding, in grant funding, and I think we received about $300,000 worth of grants. But for projects…”

And for longtime members of the museum board who’ve been through many of those ups and downs…

It’s a relief to see the museum heading in a sustainable direction.

Long time board member, Addie Eckardt tells us, “There wasn’t a critical mass of folks over time who were very deliberate about that. And that’s why it’s so very exciting to see that kind of energy and to see that kind of organization.”

The Boatyard Bash takes place Saturday, October 10th at the Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge starting at 12 P.M. To learn more about the Richardson Maritime Museum, check out their feature on WMDT’s Discover Delmarva here.
