The Ocean Pines Ladies Golf Association Organizes Pink Lady Golf Tournament
OCEAN PINES, Md. – A special event in Ocean Pines celebrating the month of October and those who have survived and currently struggle with breast cancer.
The Golf Club was the site, and the Pink Lady Tournament is the event. The focus is helping a great cause, fundraising and raising awareness for a disease that causes over 700,000 deaths worldwide.
Darin Stuiber leads the Ocean Pines Men’s Golf Association. He talked about what the event means to him and his family. “For me, it’s a very special event, wife is a 20 year survivor, so it makes it a little bit more special.”
For the tournament, courage, unity, and hope are pillars of the event. Lead organizer, Denise Stevens, promotes those themes throughout the fundraiser.
“A lot of our ladies have been survivors, so they have gone through breast cancer and their history.”
Lynn Schneider and Janet Stoer are breast cancer survivors. They told WMDT that events like this are super important for getting the word out about the cause.
“We’re both breast cancer survivors, so this is a cause very dear to us. It’s very important for women of all ages to have their mammograms.”
TidalHealth officials took to the golf course to play while also delivering an important message. “Mammograms save lives, we have early detection, said Mandy Bounds.
‘There are patients who don’t have the funds for a screening mammogram or diagnostic mammogram, so with this event, these funds do help these women in need,” Brooke Williams.
And it wasn’t just a day for the ladies—plenty of men hit the course as well. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 42,000 die from the cancer in America. Most of those are women, but men are also impacted as well.
Director of Golf, Matt Ruggiere loves hosting this event. “There is so much history behind it. It’s so incredible what the ladies do and go out there and putting this all together.”
Bob Cipretti owns ‘Touch of Italy.’ His restaurant was the platinum sponsor for the Pink Lady. “TidalHealth does a great job for the community, so we are very happy to support TidalHealth and the Pink Lady that supports this club and everything we do here.”
