SNOW HILL, Md. – Fire prevention week runs from October 4th-10th,  and the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office are spreading awareness about one of the most common causes of house fires.

This years theme is “Charge Into Safety, Safe Charging is A Superpower”, which focuses on reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires.

Officials, such as Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Korb, urge the public to practice safe charging habits and be aware of the battery fire warning.

“Follow the manufacturers instructions on charging, if it says to take it off charge after a certain amount of hours, then do that.” Said Korb. “Never charge it on a soft surface. Always charge it on a hard surface. That seems to prevent the most fires when you follow the manufacturers instructions and the way they want you to charge it with.”
