KindSBY Launches Kindness Award for Community Members

Salisbury, Md. — Local organization KindSBY is recognizing kindness in the community through a new award honoring residents making a positive impact in the community.
Heather Brooks, executive director of KindSBY, said the idea behind the initiative came from the group’s mission.
“Our mission, I’ve been talking about it for a long time is to celebrate, recognize and inspire kindness. And so, we are inspiring kindness by celebrating those in our community that are doing these amazing things,” Brooks said.
The group announced several winners for the first awards and invited the winners to receive the awards during the Third Friday event in downtown Salisbury on Sept. 18.
The initial winners were Christopher and Sharon Lonsdale, Steve Kurtz, Nance Held, and Dylan Maine. The winners receive a KindSBY acrylic that is engraved with a poem about making a positive difference.
Brooks said that they will choose one winner every month and the organization will be recognizing the winners on their website and social media platforms on a regular basis. She added that people can nominate community members on their website.
Brooks hopes that having the recognition will have a downstream effect on the community.
“When people see kindness in the community, it becomes a bit of a ripple effect. And so our hope is by recognizing those in the community that are already doing these amazing things, that it will set off another ripple in our community where we continue to see that go forward,” Brooks said.
