New faith-based homeschooling program available for Salisbury residents
Salisbury, Md. – A new home school program is now available to Salisbury residents.
ACTIVE Minds SBY facilitates homeschool academics from from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday out of Galaxy Gymnatics in Salisbury. Founders Byron and Nikkia Coulbourn said the program is a way for parents to have educational services meet their children especially if they struggle in traditional academic settings.
Nikkia said the program currently has nine students enrolled at least part time and says she anticipates more will enroll come next year. She said they hope the initiative acts as a way to tailor learning for each student.
“The school system builds the whole child up. I want to pour into the complete child. The whole child, to me, is a different term with the school versus homeschooling home child,” Nikkia said. “I want to pour into the mental aspect of it, the capability of understanding who they are as a person versus who just the system would say they are academically.”
Byron said he hopes the kind of tailor-made instruction per student with class sizes of no more than 15 students helps make children engaged with learning.
“They can come to a home school for four hours, now they got they whole day. Now we’re making school cool again,” he said.
Nikkia said though there is faith-based learning, she said she encourages those who are curious about the curriculum and how faith is approached to reach out.
