Somerset County Walk MD Events
Somerset County, Md. — The Somerset County Health Department is celebrating “Walktober” this month, encouraging residents to get active and enjoy the county’s outdoor spaces. Officials said it’s all part of Maryland’s Healthy Parks, Healthy People 2026 program.
The department held a Pumpkin Scavenger hunt Thursday at James Island State Park — and has another event planned for the afternoon of Oct. 7 at the Terrapin Run Trail Head.
“Walking is really good for your health. It’s actually our state exercise — walking, so encouraging you to walk year-round and get out and about. It’s going to be really beneficial for mental health purposes and cardiovascular health,” said Rowan Renshaw, a community health educator with the Somerset County Health Department.
The events are intended to allow residents to check out the natural beauty of their local areas.
“Definitely get engaged with our local entities and our state parks. I think that’s really beneficial for all Somerset County residents and anybody visiting us,” Renshaw said.
