13-Year-Old Student Arrested for Inappropriate Touching, Bringing Knife to Sussex Central Middle School
GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 13-year-old Sussex Central Middle School (SCMS) student after they say a knife was found in his backpack on Tuesday.
The student, of Millsboro, was arrested on charges of second degree unlawful sexual contact, possession of a weapon in a safe zone, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and terroristic threatening. He was arraigned by Family Court, and released to a parent or guardian on a $1,700 unsecured bond.
On Sept. 29, the SCMS School Resource Officer was notified by school staff that they discovered a large kitchen knife following their search of a student’s backpack. Further, the officer learned that the suspect and another student were involved in a dispute on social media and a subsequent altercation at school. During the argument at school, the suspect allegedly threatened to stab the student and later touched him in a sexual manner. No one was injured. The suspect was removed from the school at that time, and turned over to the custody of a parent or guardian.
The following day, the student turned himself in at Troop 4.
WMDT has reached out to the Indian River School District for comment on the incident.
