Charlie Paparella Admires the Pocomoke River

POCOMOKE RIVER, Md. – In this week’s edition of Back on the Road with Charlie Paparella, brought to you by Furniture & More Gone Coastal, Charlie admires the natural beauty of the Pocomoke River.

Charlie says Delmarva is blessed with many tidal rivers that provided transportation to indigenous peoples and to newcomers from Europe. One of those many rivers is the Pocomoke, which runs from the Great Cypress Swamp in southern Sussex County, Delaware, to the Pocomoke Sound on the Chesapeake Bay, located along the Maryland-Virginia state line.

“There are times, in the early evening when the mighty Pocomoke River seems to pause and to reflect,” Charlie observes. “To reflect upon every thing she nurtures on her long journey to the sea.”

The Pocomoke River is lined on both sides by lusciously wooded forests, and decorated on top with lily pads sprouting out of the water. Charlie says their presence reveals the river’s constant movement below, even when the surface appears motionless.

“What difference is there, then, between the sky above, and the placid river below? None at all, my friends… it is all but one creation, and we are but the creatures at the shore,” Charlie concludes.
