Traffic delays expected in Dover during race weekend

Whether it rains or not, with thousands people scheduled to come out to the race, traffic delays are expected.

47 ABC took a look inside DelDot’s Transportation Management Center in Smryna where the traffic over the weekend will be monitored.

Additional lanes will be opened at the SR 1 and I-95 toll plazas. The speedway’s main entrance on Route 13 will be closed for all southbound traffic once the parking lot is full.

Leipsic Road will be shut down once the race is over on Sunday. Officials say if things get too congested they do have the ability to control traffic lights for management.

Gene Donaldson says, “We can change timings from here and it’s also built automatically to adjust also. Between the field operations there and here, we are managing the traffic all during the event.

DelDot is recommending folks use the Race Express Bus shuttle service. Fans can park their cars at the Blue Hen Corporate Center and driven to and from the speedway.
