Westover family mourns the loss of Baby Evie

The parents of Evie Pratte are still coming to terms with the unexpected end to their 14-month-old daughter’s life. Rebecca and Alain Pratte say on Sunday morning Evie was showing signs of a fever.

“By the time she woke up from her nap, within 12 hours, she was gone. That’s how quick it was,” said Rebecca.

After a trip to PRMC, Evie was flown to Washington Children’s Hospital. There, around 4 a.m. Monday morning, she died. Doctors told the Prattes that Sepsis was to blame.

According to the CDC, Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to an infection. In Evie’s case, doctors say an infection was in her blood stream.

While her life came to an abrupt end the Prattes tell us they’ll remember their daughter Genevieve as a cheerful, out-going little girl.

Her father, Alain, described Evie as “happy, full of life, care-free.” Rebecca added “she was so adventurous and brave and there’s nothing she wouldn’t try and do.”

Doctors apparently told Rebecca that there was nothing else she could’ve done to prevent what happened. In March Evie celebrated her first birthday and in her memory her parents urge others to cherish every moment with their kids and to never be cautious in getting them care.

“My children have had fevers before and I never really thought anything of it and I don’t want them to be worried that they’re going to be seen as that paranoid mother,” said Rebecca. “I just want other parents to always trust their gut when it comes to their children.”

A go-fund-me page has been set up to help the Pratte Family to help pay for the funeral costs. Click here for more information.
