Wicomico celebrates anniversary with beard contests

You may be seeing a few more beards and mustaches around town  this summer, thanks to Wicomico County's Brothers of the Brush Facial hair growing contest.

The contest kicks off Saturday at the main stage of the Salisbury Festival at 7 p.m.  The contest is part of the county's 150-year celebration.  The competition was also held in 1967 to help celebrate the county's centennial celebration.

There are six contests in total, including mustache, partial beard, full beard, most unusual and worst beard.

"I can't speak to that, but I know my wife is not thrilled with this, for me at least.  But we're just going to have some fun with it.  The idea is to just get people involved, have a little bit of fun, celebrate the county's history and we're pleased to be part of that," said Steve Miller, Director of Wicomico County Recreation Parks and Tourism.

Judging will take place Friday September 15th.  For participants to qualify for prizes, the registration form must be received by September 1st.
