Lions Roar Past Tribe To Second Round

The Queen Anne’s softball team advanced to the second round of the Maryland 2A State Tournament Thursday with their 13-1 upset win over Wi-Hi. The Lions will now travel to face top seeded Easton on Monday.

The Indians would come out strong in the first inning. After getting a walk and a single to get runners on the corners, the Tribe would take a 1-0 lead after Victoria DeRosa drove a ball into the ground that just stayed fair down the first base line. The throw would be off the mark to first, and that allowed Maressa Morton to score on the play. The teams would remain just a run apart as both pitchers would settle in. For Wi-Hi, Jordan Teagle would get a few strike outs through the first 3 innings, while also forcing grounders towards Megan Webster who fielded her position at 3rd great all game.

But the Lions would eventually make the adjustments at the plate, and then they’d break loose. In the 4th with a couple on, Lindsay Ray would slap a RBI single up the middle to score Alyssa Jackson tie up the game. Then Kelsey Graef would hit a grounder to 2nd for the RBI fielders choice, scoring Gracie Ray. Queen Anne’s then stretched their lead to 2 after Kendall Brandt knocked one hard to 2nd, and use her speed to force a errant throw.

The bats then really go going in the 6th for Queen Anne’s, as Jackson would turn on one to dead center for a 2 run bomb. Once she found her swing, she didn’t stop as her next time at the dish she would blast another dinger, this time a 3 run shot to make it 10-1 in favor of the Lions. Queen Anne’s would go on to plate three more run in the game, including another big fly from Katy Sigler. Leah Bradley would earn the win on the bump for Queen Anne’s.
