BREAKING: WMDT projects Rep. Bryan Shupe to win Republican Nomination for DE House District 36
Salisbury, Md. – WMDT projects Rep. Bryan Shupe will win the Republican nomination for Delaware House District 36, which encompasses communities such as Slaughter Beach, Reynolds Mill and Shawnee Acres.
On Facebook, Shupe said:
From 12 votes to nearly 70% — I am humbled beyond words.
Two years ago, our community entrusted me with this responsibility by just 12 votes. Tonight, to receive nearly 70% of the vote is incredibly humbling.
I don’t see this as a victory for me. I see it as an affirmation of the work we’ve done together and the trust our neighbors have placed in me to continue serving them.
Thank you to every person who voted, volunteered, prayed for our family, put out a sign, made a phone call, knocked on a door, or simply offered a word of encouragement along the way.
I will never take your trust for granted.
Tonight, we are grateful. Tomorrow, we get right back to work serving the people of the 36th District.
Shupe currently serves as the representative for District 36. This will be his fourth consecutive term. In the race for the Republican nominee in the 36th District, Rep. Shupe is projected to defeat his opponent Patrick Smith with a total of 1,083 votes while his opponent, Smith has 443. WMDT is projecting his victory with almost 71% amount of votes while the Delaware Board of Election reports that 91% of election districts have submitted their results. These results are still unofficial and WMDT will update with certified results.
According to his legislative profile, legislative highlights include: House Bill 112, which sought to make voters provide photographic identification in order to vote; House Bill 318, which sought to terminate the Delaware Health Resources Board and transfer its responsibilities to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Services; and House Bill 32, which sought to establish school officer units to fund school resource officers or constables in all Delaware public schools. None of the bills succeeded in passing.
Shupe will face Democratic nominee Andrew Gorlich during the General Election on Nov. 3.
