Millsboro Man Arrested for Stabbing at Long Neck Bar

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Millsboro man on felony charges after police say he stabbed another patron at a local bar.

Troopers arrested 67-year-old Douglas Clay on charges of first degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, resisting arrest, fourth offense driving under the influence, and related traffic offenses. He was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction on a $129,018 cash bond.

At 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, troopers responded to The Crab Barn, located on Long Neck Road, for a reported stabbing. When troopers arrived, they learned that a 44-year-old man had been stabbed by a male suspect, identified as Clay, following a disagreement over a seat at the bar. The victim was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Before troopers arrived, Clay fled on a motorcycle, and a short time later, troopers saw Clay traveling north on Indian Mission Road. Troopers tried to pull him over, but he sped away. During the pursuit, troopers say Clay drove in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed on several area roads, ultimately coming to a stop in Milton where he was taken into custody.

Clay was taken to an area hospital for a medical issue. During their contact with him, troopers reportedly observed multiple signs of impairment. After being released from the hospital, Clay was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged.
