Salisbury Man Arrested for Murder After Bragging About Past Shooting History in TikTok Interview
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been arrested in connection with the murder of the mother of his child in a shooting that occurred last week.
Troopers arrested 29-year-old Gage Mitchell on charges of first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, firearm use during the commission of a violent felony, and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. He is being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center pending a future court date.
In a video circulating social media, Mitchell was interviewed by a TikToker by the name of LijhTha1 in Ocean City. In their interaction, Mitchell boasts of his past history of violence, including shootings he was arrested for in 2015 and 2016. Just two weeks later, he would go on to be arrested for the murder of Jordan Holt, the mother of his 9-month-old child.
The Fatal Shooting
Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, troopers from the MSP Salisbury Barrack responded to a residence in the 400 block of Ethels Way for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, troopers located a female victim, later identified as 29-year-old Jordan Holt, also of Salisbury, with an apparent gunshot wound.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Holt and Mitchell were involved in a verbal altercation at the residence when Mitchell shot Holt. Mitchell then fled the residence, but was located by troopers shortly thereafter, and arrested without incident. Holt was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical services personnel.
Crime Scene Technicians and other local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene to process evidence and a firearm was subsequently recovered.
Court Documents Shed Light
According to court documents obtained by WMDT, Mitchell and Holt shared a residence in Salisbury on Ethels Way, and previously lived with one another in Pasadena. The two had been engaged in a custody battle since Sept. 2019 with an individual living in Dundalk. A new case was most recently filed on Sept. 4, the day after the fatal shooting. Mitchell and Holt were listed as codefendants in the ongoing custody case.
According to a GoFundMe launched by Holt’s father-in-law, Holt worked as a server in Ocean City and was a mother to two children, a nine-year-old boy and a nine-month-old girl.
Mitchell’s TikTok Interview
In a video posted on Aug. 25, Mitchell is interviewed on the Ocean City Boardwalk. When asked what he is known for, Mitchell tells the interviewer that he was involved in shootings in Baltimore’s Brooklyn Park in both 2015 and 2016. For the latter shooting, court documents obtained by WMDT show that Mitchell ultimately plead guilty to first degree assault and illegal possession of a regulated firearm, receiving four years and six months of active jail time and five years of supervised probation. Mitchell went on to serve time as an inmate at the Maryland Correctional Institute in Hagerstown.
“I had a ‘not guilty’ conspiracy to murder, and I got out on that, and I caught an attempted [murder], and I did nine years on it,” Mitchell shares in the video. When asked why he didn’t “finish the job”, Mitchell says, “Not that time, he got lucky, my [expletive] jammed,” speaking of a Glock 26 handgun.
TikToker LijhTha1 reacted to the charges against Mitchell, saying, “It’s kinda crazy to me cause he seemed like a cool dude. He definitely has some loose screws, but overall he seemed kinda reformed. But clearly, that was not the case.”
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
