Dress for Success Event Helps People in Recovery Prepare for Workforce

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. — The Wicomico Partnership for Families & Children is hosting its annual Dress for Success event and is asking for the community’s help.

The Dress for Success event began five years ago in partnership with Wicomico Goes Purple to recognize Recovery Month. The event supports people working to get back on their feet during recovery by helping them find work outfits they may need to re-enter the workforce.

Stephanie King, director of the Wicomico Partnership for Families & Children, said it’s important to support those in need in the community.

“It’s very important just for us to be able to reduce those barriers. So when people are in recovery, any barriers that we can reduce to help them, get back on their feet and, you know, when you look at the feel good. So if you can come get an outfit for an interview, it just send you into the interview with more confidence,” King said.

To support people in recovery, the organization is asking for clothing donations. The group is looking for women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. It also is in need of men’s clothing, including suit jackets, shirts, pants and shoes.

“We were accepting drop-offs until September 4th. I will actually extend that until September 8th. Our event is next Wednesday and Thursday, September 9th and 10th, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. in our office, 110 North Division Street, Suite 108,” King said.

The first day of the event, Sept. 9, will be specifically for people in recovery. Sept. 10 will be open to everyone in the community.
