86-Year-Old Killed in Long Neck Crash; DSP Investigates

LONG NECK, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of an 86-year-old man last week.

On Aug. 18, around 11:50 a.m., a Ford Explorer was traveling on westbound on Mallard Road and stopped at the stop sign. However, a preliminary investigation revealed the Explorer failed to remain stopped, turning left into the path of a Chrysler Pacifica traveling northbound on Long Neck Road. As a result, the front of the Pacifica struck the driver’s side of the Explorer, causing at least one driver to become trapped.

The driver of the Explorer, identified as 86-year-old William Wonchoba, from Millsboro, was taken to an area hospital, succumbing to his injuries on Sunday, Aug. 23.

The driver of the Pacifica, a 69-year-old man, also from Millsboro, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
