One Killed in Lightening Strike at Cape Charles Beach

CAPE CHARLES, Va. – One person was killed and another was injured in a lightening strike at Cape Charles Beach on Thursday afternoon.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, emergency services were dispatched to Cape Charles Beach near Washington Avenue and Bay Avenue following reports of two individuals struck by lightning. Upon arrival, first responders located an adult female with non-life-threatening injuries, and a 41-year-old man from Colorado in cardiac arrest. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say out of respect for the family, the identity of the deceased will not be released.

“The Cape Charles Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” Chief James Pruitt said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
