Grove Park is Temporarily Closed

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.– Grove Park is a popular community hub featuring a playground, fitness equipment, and picnic areas.
The park is currently closed until further notice after state forestry officials identified five hazard trees infected with bacterial leaf scorch requiring immediate removal
Taylour Tedder says that temporarily closing the park felt necessary in order to keep everyone safe.
“So there’s five trees that have been identifed with bacterial leaf scorch,” Tedder said. “They’re all red oak trees and so they’re really unsafe.”
Bacterial Leaf Scorch develops when sufficient water does not reach the leaf margin cells. Moving forward Rehoboth is treating all of the trees at Grove Park with a specific insecticide and pesticide to help keep the disease contained.
“So we’re going to have all of the trees treated with a certain insecticide and pesticide and hopefully that will stop it in it’s tracks.” Tedder said.
Due to the park closure the Rehoboth Beach farmer’s market has been relocated to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center’s parking lot.
The market is planned to stay at the convention center until the diseased trees are removed from the park.
