More than $1 million announced for Cape Henlopen Senior Center
Lewes, Del. – On Wednesday, Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester highlighted over $1 million in federal funds going towards construction for a new facility for the Cape Henlopen Senior Center in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
The senior center has been serving people over 50 for 60 years. According to a statement released by Blunt Rochester’s office, The project originally began in 2007 but was delayed due to economic restraints. Blunt Rochester said in an interview with WMDT that the new facility will help support the area’s growing senior population.
As Delaware’s aging population continues to grow, especially in Sussex County, Blunt Rochester said it was imperative to invest in facilities that support seniors. She said her office partnered with local leaders and with center officials to update the senior center, especially after decades of service.
“And so, they went from 30 people that they were serving to over 1,000,” she said. “We want to help with that group in that capacity to make the quality of life for our seniors, as they age gracefully, with dignity, but also with joy and to thrive.”
