Elderly Horse Speedily Rescued from Ditch in Princess Anne
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Multiple fire companies assisted in rescuing a 25-year-old horse on Saturday morning.
On Aug. 15, crews with Mt. Vernon and Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Companies were dispatched to assist a homeowner with their horse who was found stuck in a ditch. Recognizing early on that the rescue required specialized care to keep the horse calm and safe, crews coordinated with local veterinary support from Somerset Regional Animal Hospital and Layfield Veterinary Services.
Dr. Danny Noble and Dr. Jessica Yankus arrived on scene to administer sedation, allowing team members to quickly spring into action. Using short bridles on each leg alongside assisting equipment operated by a tractor, personnel were able to safely lift and extricate the horse in just 18 minutes.
The fire company also announced the affected horse made a full recovery, and thanks all partners who participated in saving the equine.
