Chamber Chat: Welcome New Teachers Campaign
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s Chamber Chat, WMDT’s John Trout and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President Bill Chambers discussed the 17th Annual Welcome New Teacher campaign, hosted by the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce.
Bill says there are over 200 new teachers coming to Wicomico County’s public and private schools this year. The Welcome New Teacher campaign seeks to equip those new teachers with bags, provided by Pohanka of Salisbury Automotive, filled with coupons for restaurants, car washes, movies, tickets to sporting events, as well as supplies that teacher’s can use in their everyday classrooms.
“What’s sad is, you know, you’ll talk to the teachers, and they have to pay for a lot of these own supplies for their classrooms out of their own money,” Bill said. “Thankfully, the business community understands that, and they’ve they’ve heard that call to action. So a lot of what these teachers receive will compliment what they need to do in the classroom with the kids.”
The bags are handed out at each school’s teacher orientation session. Plus, the Chamber of Commerce plans to formally recognize our new teachers a large welcome breakfast being held at James M. Bennett High School.
