Lewes Man Charged After Shooting Trespasser in Foot

LEWES, Del. – The Delaware State Police have charged two Lewes men following an altercation that left one of them with a gunshot wound to the foot.

Troopers arrested 41-year-old Kenneth Drummond on charges of first degree assault and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned and released on a $40,000 unsecured bond.

Troopers arrested a second man, an unidentified 47-year-old, also of Lewes, on a count of breach of release. He was arraigned and released on an unsecured bond.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, at approximately 4:40 p.m., troopers responded to a residence in the 20000 block of Hopkins Road for a report of shots fired following a fight between two men. Troopers arrived and spoke to several people at the scene, including Drummond. A short time later, troopers were dispatched to a residence on Kendale Road for a report of 47-year-old man who had been shot in the foot. Troopers determined the two incidents were related, and the Criminal Investigations Unit assumed the investigation.

A preliminary investigation revealed the 47-year-old man was on Drummond’s property, in violation of a court-issued No Contact Order. While there, the two engaged in a physical altercation. After the initial fight, Drummond learned that the 47-year-old man was still on his property near the end of the driveway. Drummond then drove to the area and fired multiple rounds from a handgun in the direction of the man, striking him in the foot.
