Charlie Paparella Admires an Old Green House

SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s edition of Back on the Road with Charlie Paparella, brought to you by Furniture & More Gone Coastal, Charlie thinks about what life was like at an old green house.

Charlie says most would describe this little green house as “decrepit” or “old,” but to him, the collection of boards, nails, and shingles create a sagging relic of the past. The sunflowers that grow nearby have also chosen to see the beauty of this plot of land.

“The weathered sign that says ‘keep out’, its intention leaves no doubt, but it belies the warmth and cheer of the welcome long extended here,” Charlie says. “The well-worn handle on the old screen door, shining brightly, reveals much more of good-hearted people who lived here then, told friends and strangers to come on in.”

While the postman doesn’t stop and check this mailbox anymore, and no hands reach and pull the handle on the door, the memories remain.

“Only the flowers return each year, in early May through September, for what we humans are bound to forget, flowers are bound to remember,” Charlie concludes.
