Woodbridge Can’t Find Footing In State Opener

The Woodbridge girls soccer team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon when they fell to Tower Hill 2-0. The Blue Raiders finish out the season with a 11-4-1 record.

The Hillers would control the ball through most of the first half, and repeatedly send shots on goal. And while they were able to generate good looks, each of them were turned away by Altia Anderson in goal, who would have a great final game for the Blue Raiders. Her strong play would help the teams remain scoreless headed into the half, even though the Hillers out-shot the Blue Raiders 8-1 in the first half.

That changed in a hurry though in the second half.

Less than 3 minutes into the second frame, the Hillers would break through after Allison Smith would find the back of the net. The Blue Raider would again buckle down defensively as they kept the game close through the first 20 minutes of the period. But the Hillers kept on coming. Cameron Cucuzzella would take a free kick and send it into the box, where Allie Salter was able to put away the loose ball for the score. Woodbridge wouldn’t be able to manufacture much of an attack, but did get one break away late from Melanie Jerez, but her shot would get blocked by Morgan Rollins as Woodbridge was never able to break through.
