Five-Year-Old Killed, Man Injured in Dorchester Co. Shooting; MSP Investigates

LINKWOOD, Md. – The Maryland State Police (MSP) are investigating a fatal shooting that left a five-year-old girl dead and another injured early Tuesday morning.

Around 2:17 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to a residence in the 3900 block of Ocean Gateway for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, troopers located two victims with suspected gunshot wounds. Troopers say the second victim, a 30-year-old male, was flown to a local trauma center for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators from the MSP Homicide Unit responded to the scene, and Crime Scene Technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division additionally processed the scene for evidence.

An eye witness driving by the area on Tuesday morning tells WMDT that the right lane of westbound Route 50 was closed directly in front of the property. Heavy police presence was still on the scene as of 7:30 a.m., including multiple crime scene investigation units. Crime scene tape and evidence cones were visible in the front yard from the highway.
