Worcester Gold Helps Local Kids Prepare for Back To School
SNOW HILL, Md. – Back to school season has begun, and Worcester Gold is working to make sure that around 400 children have all the supplies they need to make this coming school year a success.
The Snow Hill based non-profit is holding their annual school supplies drive. They are filling up backpacks with everything a k-12 grader needs, but their family may not be able to afford.
Ryan Nellans is the executive director for Worcester Gold, and explained the goal of the program.
“We’re trying to cultivate a positive experience towards learning and education as a lifelong endeavor.” Said Nellans. “And it’s it’s so much more than just pencils and crayons. It’s it’s getting these kids to move in the right direction in a productive, happy, hopeful direction.”
The mission is to make the transition back to the classroom as smooth as possible.
“15 times, they have to have a first day of school.” Said Nellans. “And while that can be really exciting for even the most confident and the most charismatic kid, this is probably the most stressful day of their year. There is nothing worse than showing up unprepared.”
The students are in need of a variety of supplies, shown here in this flyer.
They are also looking for donors to sign up to be a “shopper”, where they would be assigned a specific student, and buy all of the items on their supply list.
