“Angels in Oilskins” Honors Coast Guards 236 Anniversary

Ocean City, Md. – “Angels in Oilskins” is a festival to celebrate “Coast Guard Day”, on their 236th anniversary, and other nautical heroes.

The event featured booths from a variety of organisations, offering interactive history lessons, a live band performing a variety of sea shanties, and even a chance to meet a furry friend that is known for their aquatic rescues, the Newfoundland.

Christine Okerblom is the curator at the Ocean City Life Saving Station, and emphasised the significance of the event. “So our museum is an orginal United States Life-Saving Station.” Said Okerblom. “So before the Coast Guard was ever in existence, we had the lifesaving service and they, eventually formed and merged into the coast guard.”
