Fire Companies Rescue Kayaker in Assawoman Bay
SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – Multiple fire companies responded to the Assawoman Bay on Sunday evening after receiving reports of a kayaker in distress.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, Bethany Beach Fire Company marine units, assisted by the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company, immediately began searching Little Assawoman Bay. During the initial search, responding marine units were unable to locate the kayaker. Additional assistance was dispatched via the Bethany Beach Police Department’s drone unit and the Delaware State Police Aviation Section.
Shortly thereafter, crews successfully located the kayaker approximately one thousand yards from the original launch site. A jet ski unit reached the individual and safely assisted them back to shore. Once on land, the individual declined evaluation or treatment by emergency medical services.
