Wicomico Students Give Back To Community With C.R.E.W

SALISBURY, Md. – On Jul. 29th at Parkside High School, a group of Wicomico County students got to see first hand how their efforts can make an difference in their community.

Members of the C.R.E.W program, which stands for Career, Research, Education, and Work, hosted a supply distribution event where student volunteers handed out a variety of supplies, such as dried goods, water, meat, and toilet paper.

From handing out baskets to coordinating the drive thru pickup, the event was fully planned by the future leaders of Wicomico County.

Alison Cornish is the Instructor for C.R.E.W, and expressed how impressed she was with the hard work of the students.

“They designed this whole event.” Said Cornish. “They came together. They worked with our community schools, coordinator, Mr. Bosman, and created an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. Made 100 baskets, fed over 100 families.”

The hard work of the program participants isn’t only making an impact for families in the community, but it is also teaching the young adults workplace and professional skills for their future.

Christian Elsey is one of those participants, and explained what skills he has learned.

“I never would have thought that I would have learned so much, like about my portfolio and stuff.” Said Elsey. “Like this year we really focused on portfolios and resumes and stuff that I really need in the future. So it’s been a great experience.”

The program is helping local students find their footing in the workforce.
