Community Alzheimer Awareness Day at Manokin Manor

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Residents, staff, family members and community guests came together at Manokin Manor nursing and rehab center in Princess Anne in partner with the Alzheimer’s Association to recognize Community Alzheimer’s Awareness Day. An event focused on education and  support for those who are living with dementia.

Abigail Gearhart Regional Activities Director at Manokin Manor shares the signs that could mean the onset to early Alzheimers.

“So one thing that I know we do is see is forgetfulness. Sometimes remembering simple tasks. So that’s one thing that this association does great is, you know bringing awareness to it. And then coming up with resources to help the community with people that are dealing with that themselves or even loved ones.”

Alzheimer’s disease continues to affect millions of families across the country, Senior Development Manager with the Alzheimer Association Nicole Gorski wants people to remember that they are not alone if they themselves or a loved one has dementia.

“Alzheimers’s association is here for them twenty four seven three hundred and sixty five days a year with our 24/7 helpline and that we partner with the community with people that are dealing with that, themselves or even loved ones,” said Nicole Gorski.

By bringing residents, caregivers and community members together, organizers say they aim to ensure that no family has to face Alzheimer’s alone.
