Applicants unhappy with MD marijuana commission

After a Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission meeting last week, some license applicants are unhappy about how things have been handled.

After previously saying they would approve an unlimited amount of processing licenses, the commission decided at the meeting to cap the number of processing licenses it will approve at 15. This to help the state regulate the process.

Processing in this case refers to taking marijuana and putting it in a consumable form.

The meeting also marks the first time the commissioners have met with applicants this year, something that applicants say is troubling.

“That whole delay in at least just having a meeting, is something that the commission really needs to take under consideration because what you have is in the absence of information people tend to assume the worst,” said Angeline Nanni, of CannaMed pharmaceuticals.

Applicants for growing, processing and distribution licenses have been told that they should find out whether they are approved by mid to late summer.

Officials say Maryland may not actually see medicinal marijuana available for purchase until next summer at the earliest.

Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission did not reply to 47 ABC emails. for this story.
