Crisfield Housing Authority Helping Feed Local Children with Free Bagged Lunches

CRISFIELD, Md.–The Crisfield Housing Authority is helping ensure children in the community have access to nutritious meals this summer by providing free bagged lunches to local youth.

The program is designed to support families during the summer months, when school cafeterias are closed and some children no longer have access to school meals.

Community Director Andre Collins said the initative is about more than providing food. It’s about supporting children and making sure no child goes hungry during the summer season.

“What this program does is it helps these parents by making sure every child gets a meal,” Collins said.

Each bagged lunch includes kid-friendly items intended to provide a balanced meal while school is out of session.

For organizer Jessica Benoit, the initative was a calling she felt compelled to answer. Benoit said she recognized a need in the community and wanted to do something to help.

“It was just important to me. I kind of saw the need, and it was laid upon me to do this operation to feed 100 kids,” Benoit said. “Just seeing a need and trying to fullfill it within the community has been my mission.”
