Snow Hill Pharmacy’s Future Uncertain After Worcester County Jail Ends Partnership

SNOW HILL, Md. – Since 1999, The Snow Hill Pharmacy has been the lone pharmacy in the town. But after they lost their partnership with the Worcester County Jail, their future is uncertain.

The pharmacy has had to shorten their hours and even close their doors on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The jail told Snow Hill Pharmacy owner Jeff Sherr that they would be deciding to fill their prescriptions elsewhere, ending a decade long partnership.

“We’ve been, involved with, servicing the jail since, May 3rd, 1999.” Said Sherr. “So it’s been 27 years and all and all. And then all of a sudden we find out not from the county, but from the, the previous medical supplier, that they were going to make a change.”

Locals of Snow Hill such as Ellen Wilson are upset to be losing their closest pharmacy.

“And if I have to go to other places to get my prescription filled, I’m going to be very upset, even though I can drive.” Said Wilson. “I know some of my friends can’t. So this is very important to us as a community.”

Owner Jeff Sherr says the community has already been disrupted by the change in hours of operations. Customers started a petition that now has approximately 500 signatures, and Sherr says he may discuss the issue with county commisoners.

“They’re constantly coming in and wanting to see what can we do, how can we help?” Said Sherr. “And I think if you reach out to most of the of the citizens of Snow Hill, they’ll give you their opinion that they don’t want to be without having access to health care down here.”

The closest nearby pharmacies are located in Salisbury, Berlin, and Pocomoke City, Approximately a 15-30 minute drive.
