CORI Robotic System with TidalHealth

BERLIN, Md. – In this week’s edition of TidalHealth, brought to you by TidalHealth, WMDT spoke with Dr. Thomas Beck, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with TidalHealth.

Dr. Beck spoke with us about the CORI Robotic System and other non-operative tools used in orthopedics.

“What [CORI] does is it allows us to evaluate the the patient’s knee pre operatively in the operating room, see where the knee is too tight to loose, where it’s malaligned,” Dr. Beck explained. “We have a special probe and we can trace out the knee and the femur and the tibia to show, make a 3D model that comes up on the computer screen.”

Dr. Beck also said part of the CORI system uses a special tensioner that puts a specific amount of pressure on the ligaments as the knee is taken through a range of motion. Once all the motion information in the computer, the screen comes up allowing an orthopedist to personally make adjustments to provide what they think is the best medical outcome for that knee.

The CORI system can also be used for partial and total knee replacements, especially in cases of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

“Pretty much every single knee that I’ve done over the past three and a half years has been with the CORI system,” Dr. Beck said. “The other benefit to the system, it is also approved to utilize in revision knee replacement, which is always a difficult procedure to get the ligaments balanced and the alignment correct.”
