MARYLAND – Maryland Tax-Free Week is set to return to retailers across the state on Aug. 9.

The second Sunday of August through the following Saturday is designated as Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week each year. During this week, qualifying apparel and footwear priced at $100 or less per item are exempt from the state sales tax (six percent). The first $40 of a backpack or bookbag purchase is also tax-free. However, backpack accessory items are not included.

Online shopping may qualify for tax exemption if the item is both paid for by the customer and delivered to the customer during the tax-free period. Items can also be eligible if the customer orders and pays for the item and the retailer accepts the order for immediate shipment, even if the item is delivered after the tax-free period ends.

This year’s Tax-Free Week theme focuses on savings, for families, for local businesses, and for communities across the state.
