Title Bound! IR Tops DMA To Advance To Championship

The Indian River girls soccer team advance to their 2nd straight state championship game on Wednesday night when the Indians defeated Delaware Military Academy 2-1. The Indians built a 2-0 goal by halftime, and road their defense in the second half to the win.

IR would jump on the board first in the 15th minute after Madison Mercer found Madison Hogsten on a lead pass. Hogsten would out run the defenders and be able to beat the keeper for post for the score. The Indians then made it 2-0 after Hogsten would find Brooke Beam at the top of the box. She would settle the pass, turn and fire it in for the score. The Indians would ride their 2-0 lead into halftime before the Seahawks would finally be able to get one back. Meleyna Immediato would send a strike from the 22 yard line and would find the back of the net to make it a one goal game. But that was the only goal the tough IR defense would give up as time would expire, sending them onto the state championship.

Indian River will now face Caravel on Friday.
