DENTON, Md. – The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on narcotics and firearm charges following a traffic stop on Thursday evening.

Deputies arrested 38-year-old Ryan Gerald Dailey of Laurel, Maryland, on charges of possessing a handgun in a vehicle, controlled dangerous substance (CDS) distribution, and related gun charges. He was arraigned and is being held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center.

On Jun. 25, at 7:21 p.m., authorities received a report of a vehicle being operated in a reckless and negligent manner on Shore Highway. Deputies were already in the area and quickly located a white GMC Sierra 1500 bearing Pennsylvania registration being driven negligently.

Upon initiating a traffic stop near Shore Highway and Downes Station Road, officers observed the driver, identified as Dailey, exhibiting nervous behavior. Dailey reportedly told officers his erratic driving was due to having a large pitbull in the backseat.

A K-9 conducted a scan around the stopped vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of CDS. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • Heroin
  • Fentanyl
  • Powder Cocaine
  • Crack Cocaine
  • Suboxone strips
  • Hypodermic needles
  • A cutting agent
  • A digital scale with CDS residue
  • A loaded .380 caliber handgun

Authorities say the quantity and variety of narcotics recovered were consistent with possession with intent to distribute. Officers also determined the firearm had been reported stolen in New Castle, Delaware.
